• Please clean up after your dog. Receptacles for dog waste are provided at each practice location.
• Dogs must be on 6' leads and under the owners' control at all times. NO FLEXI LEADS ALLOWED.
• Earthdog practice is not a playgroup. Please respect dogs' and owners' personal spaces by keeping your dog a reasonable distance away from the other dogs and ask owners' permission before allowing your dog to approach another dog.
• If a dog is working above ground, with or without a rat in a cage present, please keep your distance until it is your turn.
• Rats are not allowed out of the cages at any time.
• Please remember to bring water and shade for you and your dog. We recommend bringing a crate so your dog can have a place to relax in between runs.
• The practice fee of $10 for non-members, free for members. This covers two (2) opportunities with the rat. Please respect this so that everyone who comes to practice gets their two turns.
• The practices are broken up into 3 one hour sessions. Please email GTCEarthdog@gmail.com to communicate your preference for time. You must check in with a practice volunteer, pay, and sign a release in order to get in the queue. Dogs may not run their two runs back to back. Please remember that shorter sessions (especially with novice dogs) are usually more successful! The practice volunteers have the right to ask you to take a break with your dog if they feel the dog has been overworked.
• While we may expect our dogs to be as excited about seeing a rat as we are, sometimes dogs need time to warm up to the earthdog game. Patience goes a long way in the sport of earthdog. Please do not push your dog further than he or she feels comfortable. It may take a few practices over time before your dog feels comfortable reacting to the quarry or going through a tunnel. Be patient, support your dog, and remember to have fun!
• Don't forget to bring delicious treats for your dog! Treats can go a long way in building enthusiasm for going through the tunnel and keeping your dog's focus on you in between runs.
